How About Them Tube Hotels?

*not my photo

Getting to be the rage as you read this, the advent of hotels made from concrete drains is fascinating. Oversized drain pipes are laying everywhere on the streets all over the world right? Well, these round cement objects used as pipes to prevent clogs and floods on the streets can be reused as stations of comfort and the photos here show it doesn't take much to convert them into something homey and swanky!

Recycled, eco-deco’d and ingenious in their design, these humongous drains which are turned into comfortable tiny rooms with a bed are utilitarian for the traveler on a budget.

Pioneered by architect Andreas Strauss, the first such hotel was built in Austria with Das Park Hotel and has so far propagated to Malaysia with the Langkawi Hotel , Mexico with TuboHotel and the Prahhan Hotel in Australia. The ones in Mexico, Malaysia and in Austria are situated in Eco Parks while the one in Australia (Prahhan Hotel) appears in an urban setting. It is only a matter of time when these materials will also be used for single-family housing, like the container vans we now see of late.

The view on this one. (not my photo)

I personally want a concrete drain or two now to convert them into small rooms for visiting guests and family members who want to come and visit. Just point one end on a nature scene, get a really comfy mattress, sheets with cotton count of 300 and above, feather pillows, accentuate, decorate, et voilá! A dreamy guest room for years to be talked about.

Your Own Über Cool Pad in a Day:

A Heijmans ONE Project, this modular houses by the Moodworks Architecture from the Netherlands  can be built in one day and are geared towards working singles.  In my book though, it's me, the husband and more room for a feline princess.  I plucked this article from Web Urbanist and it's worth re-blogging.

Inspiration Station: Living Room no. 1

 photo from: stineheilmann

There is no element in this living room that does not make me fawn for it. OK, maybe I will exchange the chaise with 2 single chairs, and replace the light fixture with an over sized Asian lantern; but look at it as a whole why don't ya..

The wood beams, check!, the bookshelf w/ books as adornment - functional and great wall decor (so to speak). Solid wood dark floors, wow! The single wall divider is most helpful and and space saving. How about those skylights cum windows? Ridiculous.

Ridiculous I can live with on a daily basis...

A Cozy Modern Interior in SB:

Found this intimate space at The Savoy Hotel's lobby in South Beach.

At the time, I was so pleased to glimpse at this briefly, snap the pic while no one was at the lobby (notice my selfy on the mirror) and even wondered, was there anyone at the hotel? or is it just some sort of a best kept secret in SB?

As how I look at it now, the Neo-Classic interior design married the earth-toned Mediterranean tile flooring.

And...

This über cool modern design of ceiling moldings, dark furniture pieces mixed with the whites positively says:

All is good at the bright and sunny place both inside and out!

Dining Chairs: Do and Do not

Do: If you want to provide comfort, coziness and a hospitable seating arrangement for your guests, clearly the dining chairs exhibited on the photo on the left will do the job.

Do not: On the other side of the coin, if you anticipate guests who gossip needlessly, talk rubbish and make you pine for lost brain cells, then by all means make them sit on these modern rocking chairs (shown on the right) while they eat. However, just be ready to clean up vomitus in the bathroom because sitting on these inventions while you eat guarantees the nauseum in ad nauseum.

You sneaky hostess you...

Who wants in or out?

With a flip of these humongous door/windows, the outside becomes the inside or vice versa. The use of organic and modern materials marry very well in this airy living room.

The place is made more desirable by the outdoor wood floor extension bridging the indoor part of the living room to the lush nature for continuity.  This one is altogether a room to be inspired by.

Of course it's a far stretch for me even for a December wishlist, that's why I just blog about it. Ha-ha..

Best Use of a Back Wall

This closet was chosen as one of Apartment Therapy's best closets of the past year and deservedly so!

The organizational effort that went into this area is most notable and I believe is economical. I honestly would prefer this closet to any kind of custom-made or brand name closet makers from coast to coast!

That spot is just my kind of swanky!

2012's First Earthly Desire:

The first pic that made me smile this new year was this photo from Emma's Design Blog and it contains 5 of my all time favorite elements in a home. An Altbau interior, white walls, a killer modern chandelier, some marble and that enviable tea set!!

It's gonna be a spectacular year for interior design in the blogosphere, I can already tell!

oh! and by the by . . . HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

What a Space!

What can I say about this space? It's a dream that's what! How I love the airiness, this seemingly everlasting space, relaxing color and just how this is all put together.

I extracted this photo from Nordic Design and I am crazy about it!
